Vessa

4km from Elata, 19km from the town, you will find Vessa, the next village in which castles predominate. It is worth wandering around the narrow streets of Vessa to admire the architecture of the houses which have remained intact and visiting the church of St. Demetrios to admire its woodcut icon screen. Vessa is a small village but it's characteristic of the medieval villages of southern Chios and it's also well preserved through the years, especially the corner towers of its castle and parts of the fortification wall.
